Testing and Certifications

Moonlight Slumber puts your baby's health first.  We go to every length to ensure use of responsible materials to ensure durable, quality products. We test internally and use certified, independent third parties to give you peace of mind.

GreenGuard Gold Certified - Sleeping Environment

Moonlight Slumber crib mattresses are certified free from indoor air pollutants and off-gassing by Underwriters Laboratory Environment and their GreenGuard Gold program. This program formerly known as GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification, offers stricter certification criteria, considers safety factors to account for sensitive individuals (such as children and the elderly), and ensures that a product is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities. It is referenced by both The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Building Rating System.  To learn more, visit:

CertPUR-US Certified - Components/Materials

Moonlight Slumber foam products are also certified by CertiPUR-US. CertiPUR-US is a non-for-profit industry group that sets quality standards for foams to ensure that manufacturers have access to quality materials and consumers are aware of quality differences in what is available for purchase.

Moonlight Slumber foam is certified to be:

  • Made without ozone depleters
  • Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP ("Tris") flame retardants
  • Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy metals
  • Made without formaldehyde
  • Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)

Consumer Product Safety

CPSIA Compliance

On August 14, 2008, President Bush signed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) into law. This consumer product safety law, known as CPSIA compliance, affects everyone who manufactures, imports, or distributes toys, apparel, kids' bedding, and other children's products in the United States. It was created to protect children from unsafe products.

This legislation requires that all products for use by children of ages 12 and younger have additional information on a permanent label, which includes:

  • Date of production
  • Name of manufacturer
  • Lot or batch number
  • Production location

The CPSC General Counsel said:

"Products that contain lead above the limit set in the CPSIA cannot be sold from inventory or on store shelves after February 10, 2009."

The CPSC General Counsel said:

"...With regard to phthalates, Congress created a consumer product safety standards and the clear statement of unambiguous intent to apply that standard retroactively cannot be found... [The standard] applies only those products manufactured after the effective date of the new standard."

In summary, it is the opinion of the CPSC General Counsel that:

  1. They will not reverse their interpretation that products with total lead in excess of 600 PPM have to be off store shelves on February 10, 2009; and
  2. That the ban on phthalates (0.1% level) does not affect existing inventory.

Moonlight Slumber is proud to say that all of its bedding products meet or exceed this standard as tested by SGS. The SGS Group is the global leader and innovator in inspection, verification, testing, and certification services. Visit SGS and learn more about their testing labs.

Last night I used the Comfort U Maternity Pillow for the first time in a while (for the first time since I started getting uncomfortably pregnant) and it was the best thing ever. 'Like' is an understatement. Until I needed it, I didn't fully understand it's lifesaving status (or maybe just sanity saving)!
